NAMI is a brand based out of Los Angeles, started by Sarah Nami Ahn, who was born in Korea but raised everywhere else. A U.S. Army brat, she has seen much of the world having moved 22 times before the age of 18. As a globetrotter since birth, her worldly experiences have colored their way into her design philosophy.
Her education is not that of a typical designer. Sarah earned a BS, MS, and PhD in the neurosciences from UCLA. Following her career in the sciences and important life experiences, Sarah sought new perspective and priorities for her career. With a desire to bridge her passion for the arts with her inner creativity, she decided to pursue studies in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.
After only 6 months of fashion school, Sarah won a national dress design contest and as a result her dress was sold out within a couple months at major department stores under the Spring 2011 Collection of Laundry by Shelli Segal. Sarah was an invited speaker at the 2nd annual SXSW Style X fashion panel and is a confirmed designer for Spring|Summer 2013 Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week. Additionally, The Huffington Post names Sarah as one of the future leaders in the fashion industry.
